Pick your reel by how you fish
Conventional reels do the heavy work out here. Star drags are the simpler, tougher choice for bait fishing; lever drags give you drag control through the fight and are the standard for tuna and long-range work. Spinning reels earn their place casting surface iron, poppers, and live bait, and they're the easy pick for anyone who doesn't want to thumb a spool. Electric reels take over where depth makes hand-cranking a chore — deep drop, rockfish at depth, daytime swordfish.
What we stock
Avet's full range of Chatsworth, California-machined lever drags — including the only 3-speed reels made today. Okuma from the Rockaway SI and Inspira spinners — the most popular of their affordable reels — through Cedros to the Makaira two-speeds. Daiwa from the BG and Saltist spinners through Saltiga and the Lexa HD baitcasters, plus Seaborg electrics. Penn Internationals, Fathoms, and Slammer IV spinners. Accurate's Valiant 2 and ATD two-speeds, machined in Corona, California. Prices start around $150 and top out near $1,700 at the big-game end — the middle of that range covers most SoCal boats.
Spooled and rigged before it ships
Tell us your line and we'll spool it before it goes in the box — braid, topshot, or hollow-core inline splicing — and most reels ship rigged and fishing-ready. Left-hand retrieve models are available in several brands; stock rotates, so call and we'll tell you what's on the shelf today.
