Do you offer free shipping?
We offer free domestic shipping on most orders over $150 subtotal. This excludes oversized and bulky items such as rods, blanks, gaffs, some tackle boxes, lobster nets, landing nets and other large items. Any 1 piece rod over 7'10" in length often incurs the biggest oversize fees charged by domestic shipping companies although we do have lower rates via other carriers on the West Coast. Any additional shipping fees will be automatically calculated at checkout before any billing is done.
What countries do you ship to?
We currently ship products within the US and to almost every country in the world, covering all available destination via UPS and DHL. International shipping times depend on the products and destination. Shipping rates are automatically calculated at checkout, for most countries we also collect Duties and Taxes and prepay them so you do not have to deal with the carrier or customs.
How long will it take to get my order?
Standard shipping can take 3-8 business days depending on location and order volume. If you have requested spooling on your reel or rigging on your lures then it could take an additional day or two. Next day & 2 day shipping is available on most domestic orders (for an additional charge). Orders placed after 12pm Pacific Standard Time will be processed the next business day.
What carriers do you ship with?
We work with UPS, FedEx, US Postal Service, GLS and DHL. When your order qualifies for free shipping or has a rod that qualifies for discounted shipping we reserve the right to choose which carrier it is sent with, otherwise you can pick the service you want. UPS Ground ranges from 1 to 7 day delivery, USPS Priority Mail is typically 1-3 days but is not a guaranteed express service, and USPS Ground Advantage takes roughly 3-7 business days. Longer rods are generally sent via GLS unless otherwise specified, this service ranges from 1 - 10 days.

This is the three-speed San Diego Special. Same topless EX 50 frame with SDS on the front crossbar, the same 700 yards of 130 lb, and the same open top that lets you watch your line and clear a wrap without looking away from the fish — but the third gear widens the spread at both ends. The high goes to 4:1 and 44 inches a crank, which is faster than a good many jigging reels, on a reel that is fishing 130 lb. The bottom gear is a true 1:1, for when a fish simply stops and you still have to move it.
Same job as the two-speed, more range to do it in. This is the go-to size for long-range yellowfin — trips over ten days running to Hurricane Bank, fish well over 100 lb with many in the 200 lb range, some in the 300s, and several world records over 400 lb out of the same water. Larger gears, a larger spool and more drag are the mechanical reason the size works for long-soaking a mackerel or a caballito, and for chunking. The third gear is what you add when you want to cover line quickly and still have a granny gear in reserve.
The 50 has a long record with us. Back in our charter years we had fishermen aboard from all over the country fishing Avet 50s they had bought from us, and after a run of cow-sized tuna the 50s were the reels that came through without failing or feeling squirrelly. That is the reputation this size carries, and the three-speed inherits all of it — same frame, same drag, one more gear.
Rods. The rail list is short and good: UC RCX or RGPX 76 Invictus, or the RGPX 76 Viper. The same rods handle local high-speed trolling for 100–200 lb bluefin and kite fishing. Dedicated trolling rods — the RCX 40XO, or an Okuma PCH-TRB-5101XH or 6101XH — are the better tool for trolling specifically, but a lot of buyers still prefer a rail rod for the versatility and for getting around outboards.

Does it come left-handed?

On left-hand retrieve, Avet is not like anyone else, and there is a reason. Harry, one of Avet's owners, is a lefty — so they go out of their way to build a left-hand model in almost every size and model they make. Among American manufacturers, Accurate and Seigler look after lefties too; nearly everyone else offers one or two models, if any. And a question we get a lot: does Avet make left-hand reels in colors? They did, six-plus years back, in a few colors — then stopped, for a practical reason. The only part that differs on a left-hand reel is the gearbox, and colored parts vary from batch to batch, so they kept ending up with mismatched colored parts. It is simply easier to build them in silver. A silver lefty is a manufacturing consequence, not a shortcut.

A note on availability. Avet holds a large stock of parts and assembles reels as they are ordered, so most Avet reels are not sitting on a shelf at the time of purchase. We order and receive from Avet three to four times a week, so a reel we do not have typically lands in three to four business days — longer on larger or specialty models. If you want an odd size, color or a left-hand retrieve, that is usually a short wait rather than a dead end.
