Daiwa

(81 products)

Daiwa is the conservative one among the Japanese tackle giants — slow to chase gimmicks, and once they develop a winner they stay with it. That philosophy shows across this collection: Saltiga and Saltist reels for serious offshore work, Seaborg electrics, Lexa baitcasters, and spinning reels that trace their lineage back to the Black Gold series we've fished since the mid-1980s. Daiwa gives our clients top-shelf quality at a genuinely competitive price, and we stock the saltwater line deep — reels, rods, jigs, and tackle storage — with rigging and spooling done here before your order ships.

Slow to change, built to last

Within the Japanese market Daiwa has long been considered the best, and their approach explains why: they're deliberate about introducing new designs, but once something is developed properly, it stays in the line for decades. The Black Gold spinning series is the perfect example — we've been fishing BG reels since 1984, and the modern BG remains as good a spinning reel as you can buy anywhere near its price. That's the Daiwa pattern: quality and innovation without the churn, and real value at every price point in the line.

What's in the collection

Saltiga is the flagship — spinning and conventional reels, plus rods like the Power Slow jigging series, all built for the biggest fish you're likely to meet. Saltist brings much of that capability to a working-angler price, including the MQ spinning reels with their one-piece frame design. Seaborg electric reels handle deep-drop and kite duty. Lexa baitcasters — including the HD models — cover inshore and light offshore work, and the BG and Ballistic spinning reels are the value benchmarks of the saltwater spinning world. Beyond reels and rods you'll find Daiwa jigs and some genuinely well-thought-out tackle storage — their jig bags solved a problem West Coast iron fishermen had for years: carrying two dozen jigs without a duffel full of chaos.

Set up before it ships

Pick your line at checkout and we'll spool it here — braid backing with a topshot, straight braid with a depth-counter pattern, or hollow core with a wind-on. Questions about which Saltist or Saltiga size matches your fishery? Call the shop; the folks answering the phone fish this gear.

Frequently asked questions

What battery do I need for an electric reel?

Electric reels run on DC battery power only — never household AC. Daiwa's current reels are rated 12–16.8V, 12–24V, or 24V depending on the model, so check the spec table on the product page or the manual before buying a battery. A dedicated, waterproof battery made for electric reels (Daiwa's Super Lithium or Tough Battery series) or a marine-grade deep-cycle is the right power source. Only use a lithium pack the reel maker specifies for your model — unspecified lithium batteries are the one shortcut that can cause a serious accident. And if the battery indicator drops to about 10V, the reel restricts its winding power: recharge or swap before the next drop.

Can I run an electric reel off my boat's power?

You can on many boats, but a dedicated reel battery is the better setup. Boat supplies are prone to voltage swings from the generator and wiring, which can trip the reel's protection circuit mid-fight — and if you fish with the engine off, you can drain the start battery. A reel maker's own battery pack or a waterproof deep-cycle gives you steady voltage all day. Two hard rules: never connect a 12–16.8V reel to a 24V system, and never to household AC — either can mean smoke, not just a dead reel.

How do I clean an electric reel after a trip?

Rinse it gently with fresh water under 30°C (86°F) — warm, not hot. For grime, Daiwa's own recipe is mild dish detergent at about 1.5 ml per liter of water with a soft sponge; rinse the spool especially well to clear salt, then dry the reel completely. No solvents, no stiff brushes, and don't aim high-pressure water at it. Before it goes on the shelf: loosen the drag, get the water out of the handle knob, and store the power cord disconnected. And never open the reel up yourself — electric reels are not user-serviceable inside.

Why did my electric reel slow down or stop winding?

It's usually the battery, not the reel. Below about 10V the reel restricts its winding power to protect itself, so a tired battery reads as a weak reel — recharge or swap first. Electric reels also carry an overload-protection breaker: under an excessive load it pauses winding for a few seconds (roughly 5 seconds for load, 15 for a temperature spike), then comes back on its own. And a power cord connected with the polarity reversed won't conduct at all, so check the +/- connections before assuming the worst.

Do electric reel power cords wear out?

Yes — treat the cord as a consumable. Daiwa recommends replacing it every two years or roughly every 60 outings, because an aged cord risks breakage and short circuits right when a fish is on. Between trips, wipe the cord down, dry the connector tips fully, and store it disconnected from the reel with the protection cap on the reel's connector. Use the maker's own cord for your model — connectors are not interchangeable between brands.
