Delivery & Shipping
Delivery & Shipping
Do you offer free shipping?
We offer free domestic shipping on most orders over $150 subtotal. This excludes oversized and bulky items such as rods, blanks, gaffs, some tackle boxes, lobster nets, landing nets and other large items. Any 1 piece rod over 7'10" in length often incurs the biggest oversize fees charged by domestic shipping companies although we do have lower rates via other carriers on the West Coast. Any additional shipping fees will be automatically calculated at checkout before any billing is done.
What countries do you ship to?
We currently ship products within the US and to almost every country in the world, covering all available destination via UPS and DHL. International shipping times depend on the products and destination. Shipping rates are automatically calculated at checkout, for most countries we also collect Duties and Taxes and prepay them so you do not have to deal with the carrier or customs.
How long will it take to get my order?
Standard shipping can take 3-8 business days depending on location and order volume. If you have requested spooling on your reel or rigging on your lures then it could take an additional day or two. Next day & 2 day shipping is available on most domestic orders (for an additional charge). Orders placed after 12pm Pacific Standard Time will be processed the next business day.
What carriers do you ship with?
We work with UPS, FedEx, US Postal Service, GLS and DHL. When your order qualifies for free shipping or has a rod that qualifies for discounted shipping we reserve the right to choose which carrier it is sent with, otherwise you can pick the service you want. UPS Ground ranges from 1 to 7 day delivery, USPS Priority Mail is typically 1-3 days but is not a guaranteed express service, and USPS Ground Advantage takes roughly 3-7 business days. Longer rods are generally sent via GLS unless otherwise specified, this service ranges from 1 - 10 days.

The MXJ Raptor Plus is the narrow MX with the most cranking power Avet puts in the size. The low gear drops to 3:1 where the standard Raptor stops at 3.8:1, and that is the reason to step up — it is also why the model reads 6/3 rather than 6/4. The 21/31 lb carbon drag and the 470-yard narrow spool carry over unchanged.
The Raptor Plus update brought some ergonomic changes over the original Raptor: a reshaped frame that makes it easier to thumb the spool, and a more rounded side plate that is more comfortable to hold through a long day. That handle is the one you want once you drop into the low gear.
The narrow “J” frame is the other half of the reel. It is taller and skinnier than a standard MX spool on the same internals, which gives a faster retrieve per crank and makes line far easier to guide back on evenly — and that second part matters more than people expect after a long day. Any application that does not need much capacity but does want heavy line and drag benefits from the narrow spool.
On a jig it does something better still: tension the fall and the jig hangs vertical instead of planing away, so it gets down faster and stays in the zone you meant to fish.

What rods pair with this reel?
What rods pair with this reel?
Rods. The MX fishes the same live-bait rods as the SX: UC RCE 700M or the RCE 800 Mega, Okuma PCH-C-761MH or -761H, and the Daiwa Proteus 76 or 80 in MHF or HF. Step down a class and the lighter rods still work — RCE 700XL or 700L, RCE 800XF or the 800 Mag, Okuma PCH-C-701M or -761M. For speed jigging, the lighter end of the Tesoro series is the pairing. The MXJ and the MXL take the same rods and the same line test as each other, so nothing here changes between the narrow and the wide.
What does Magic Cast do?
What does Magic Cast do?
On the magnetic cast control, there are two clear buy signals. If you are new to fishing a conventional reel in saltwater, buy the MC version — it will save you time and frustration, and it does not degrade your cast one bit. And if you are going to fish mostly braid connected to a shorter leader, there is no question: get the MC. The magnet builds resistance in proportion to spool speed and then tapers off on its own as the spool slows, so it does the most work early in the cast, when a spool is most likely to over-run.
Does it come left-handed?
Does it come left-handed?
On left-hand retrieve, Avet is not like anyone else, and there is a reason. Harry, one of Avet's owners, is a lefty — so they go out of their way to build a left-hand model in almost every size and model they make. Among American manufacturers, Accurate and Seigler look after lefties too; nearly everyone else offers one or two models, if any. And a question we get a lot: does Avet make left-hand reels in colors? They did, six-plus years back, in a few colors — then stopped, for a practical reason. The only part that differs on a left-hand reel is the gearbox, and colored parts vary from batch to batch, so they kept ending up with mismatched colored parts. It is simply easier to build them in silver. A silver lefty is a manufacturing consequence, not a shortcut.

A note on availability. Avet holds a large stock of parts and assembles reels as they are ordered, so most Avet reels are not sitting on a shelf at the time of purchase. We order and receive from Avet three to four times a week, so a reel we do not have typically lands in three to four business days — longer on larger or specialty models. If you want an odd size, color or a left-hand retrieve, that is usually a short wait rather than a dead end.
