Delivery & Shipping

Do you offer free shipping?

We offer free domestic shipping on most orders over $150 subtotal. This excludes oversized and bulky items such as rods, blanks, gaffs, some tackle boxes, lobster nets, landing nets and other large items. Any 1 piece rod over 7'10" in length often incurs the biggest oversize fees charged by domestic shipping companies although we do have lower rates via other carriers on the West Coast. Any additional shipping fees will be automatically calculated at checkout before any billing is done.

What countries do you ship to?

We currently ship products within the US and to almost every country in the world, covering all available destination via UPS and DHL. International shipping times depend on the products and destination. Shipping rates are automatically calculated at checkout, for most countries we also collect Duties and Taxes and prepay them so you do not have to deal with the carrier or customs.

How long will it take to get my order?

Standard shipping can take 3-8 business days depending on location and order volume. If you have requested spooling on your reel or rigging on your lures then it could take an additional day or two. Next day & 2 day shipping is available on most domestic orders (for an additional charge). Orders placed after 12pm Pacific Standard Time will be processed the next business day.

What carriers do you ship with?

We work with UPS, FedEx, US Postal Service, GLS and DHL. When your order qualifies for free shipping or has a rod that qualifies for discounted shipping we reserve the right to choose which carrier it is sent with, otherwise you can pick the service you want. UPS Ground ranges from 1 to 7 day delivery, USPS Priority Mail is typically 1-3 days but is not a guaranteed express service, and USPS Ground Advantage takes roughly 3-7 business days. Longer rods are generally sent via GLS unless otherwise specified, this service ranges from 1 - 10 days.

Prop 65 Warning ⚠

The Tanacom 800 is the mid-size of the modern Tanacom family — the 1200's little brother, built on the same redesign. It holds 660 yards of 80 lb J-Braid (220 yards more than the Tanacom 750 it replaced), retrieves about 30% faster, and the whole package is saltwater-sealed for an end-of-day hose-down.

The motor moved inside the spool

Earlier Tanacoms carried their motor out front. Like the 1200, the 800 tucks the motor and gearing inside the spool: the same dependable motor delivers more power, speed, and efficiency, the frame and side plates stay rigid, and the repositioned bearings see less water. No-load retrieve runs 140 m/min (about 460 ft/min), with 70 lb (35.1 kgf) of momentary winding power for heavy lifts.

Drag and control

Max drag is 55 lb (25 kg), sealed against saltwater. The Power Lever gives variable-speed control under your thumb, or crank by hand through the 2.1:1 gears and aluminum round knob at 23.1" per turn. The oversized line-guide aperture passes swivels and bulky knots straight through the levelwind — wind a kite rig right to the rod tip.

Electronics that earn their keep

The LED dot-matrix counter reads depth in feet or meters with selectable display languages and a built-in counter lamp. An adjustable auto-stop halts the retrieve short of the surface, the inverse counter and line-feeding function manage the drop, and a chumming timer re-feeds line on a schedule. Fully sealed electronics, an overload circuit breaker, and a rod clamp for kite duty complete it.

Like every electric reel it wants a dedicated battery: it runs on 12 V DC (16.8 V max) — a Daiwa electric-reel battery is the recommended source, and it will not run on household AC or 24 V boat power. Daiwa backs US Tanacoms with a one-year warranty.

Electric reel power & care basics

Power. Electric reels run on DC battery power only — never household AC, and never a 24V boat system unless the reel is rated for it (this reel's rating is in the spec table). A dedicated, waterproof reel battery — Daiwa's Super Lithium or Tough Battery series, or a marine deep-cycle — beats running off the boat, whose voltage swings can trip the reel's protection circuit mid-fight. Use only a lithium pack the maker specifies for your model.

If it slows down or stops: it's usually the battery, not the reel. Below about 10V the reel restricts its winding power, and an overload breaker pauses winding for a few seconds under an excessive load or heat spike, then resumes. A cord connected with reversed +/- polarity won't conduct at all.

Care. Rinse gently in cool fresh water (under 30°C/86°F) — mild dish soap and a soft sponge for grime, no solvents or stiff brushes — then dry completely, loosen the drag, and drain the handle knob before storage. Store the power cord disconnected and treat it as a consumable: Daiwa recommends a new cord every two years or roughly 60 outings. And don't open the reel up yourself — the electronics aren't user-serviceable.
