Temple Reef Big Berty Popping Rods

The Big Berty is about as heavy duty as it gets for a topwater popping rod, with enough length and pulling power to fish the biggest lures and catch the biggest fish. These are the perfect rods for targeting the bigger bluefin here in SoCal, and they’ll even pack up short for when you travel to OBX, Fiji or anywhere else in the world. You’ll want to pair one of these with the biggest spinners you can find, no less than a 20000 size ideally something like the Okuma Makaira 30000 just to get the right line capacity of 100 or 130lb braid. These have a lot of recoil but once you put a 30lb drag load on them they’ll bend enough to keep the fight comfortable without putting you on your toes.

They look great and have high quality Fuji components to withstand a lot of abuse without compromising on overall feel since they are still rather light for the line class they have to deal with. You’ll want the biggest poppers you can find in the 150-220g range or stickbaits in the 220g+ range.
