7/21/2024 – Weekly Specials

There's been a ton of action in our local waters, limits of white seabass, tons of yellowtail and now local bluefin off of Dana Point along with the big boys down south. It looks to like the best fishing we've had all year long no matter what you're trying to catch.

ICAST has just wrapped up and so far it looks like another conservative year for the industry, there's a few notable exceptions but besides that there wasn't much that was unexpected or new and exciting. Okuma has released their limited edition color for this year, Mahi, and we'll be getting those as soon as they are available. Dominion Rods came out with a cool concept, kite and deep drop rods with an integrated battery pack in the butt so you can plug your reels directly into the rod instead of a separate battery. BKK has a cool tackle tray that has slots for dozens of different hook sizes all neatly packed in smaller boxes and labeled, we hope to see this concept applied to saltwater hooks not just bass. Promar/Ahi has released a stainless steel ghost shrimp pump which will be nice for our local fishing. Fuji unveiled the full line of TCH titanium/carbon fiber reel seats which is great for custom rod builders. Besides that you'll find some products I found more interesting below.

If you’ve got pictures of some of your catches with our gear feel free to send us some pictures either to me at sergey@charkbait.com or Mark at information-1@charkbait.com

If you have any suggestions, complaints, questions or comments about the website please feel free to email me at: sergey@charkbait.com or give me a call at the shop.

As always, thank you for visiting our Weekly Specials and hope to see you at the shop!

Sincerely,
Sergey Smith

New Accurate Valiant Series

Accurate decided to show off a new project they've been working on, a new Valiant series that features some great upgrades. These reels won't be available until later this year and won't be replaced the rest of the Valiant lineup just yet. They have added a new cast control system to the spool of these reels which will make them as easy and great to cast as the Tern 2, a much needed addition to the lineup.

Along with this they've gotten rid of the external frame detents for the drag lever instead adding a button to stop you from going into full.

The overall feel of these reels is more smooth and refined in operation, but they'll work especially well for casting.

New Penn Fathom Electric Reels

Penn has announced a new electric version of their Fathom reels, available in a 30, 50 and 80 size (Fathom sizing). These reels feature an integrated battery pack which will make them easier to use and a complete package out of the box. Each reel comes with a battery and charger but additional batteries and multi battery chargers are available for sale.

These reels are not advertised or meant for bluefin or swordfish, but they will fill in for anything in between. The batteries are rated for around 15-20 deep drops with a heavy weight so you'll likely need a few if you want to make it through a trip.

These reels won Best of Saltwater Reel and Best of ICAST 2024 categories making them one of the hottest arrivals.

New Salta Mag Runner

Salta has shown off the production variant of the Mag Runner lures we first saw prototyped a few years ago. These lures are capable of diving over 120 feet and trolling at high speed depending on how they're rigged up.

They feature the same magnet technology as the MagDiver which has been extremely popular, allowing the belly hook to stay straight without moving back and forth causing instability. We are looking forward to receiving these lures in the next couple of months, we think they'll work great for high speed wahoo trolling as well as bluefin in Northern California which tend to be a bit deeper.

New Oceans Legacy 5X Stainless Steel Treble Hooks

Oceans Legacy announced a new hook product, complimenting the rest of their lineup of high quality stainless hooks. These are the only true stainless steel hook I've seen available in this size because it's a hard metal to work with compared to tin and other alloys.

They are inline trebles so they'll work perfect with casting and trolling lures and are available up to the larger 5/0 size.

The eye of the hook is tapered to allow easy use of split rings unlike other thick wire hooks.
