We've really tried hard to find the best selection of lures on the market
for wahoo. While many styles of lure will get hammered by a 'hoo, over the
years a trend has developed that's the focus of this particular page.
Tossing Wahoo Bombs has turned into a very productive Long Range fishing
trip mainstay and pre-occupation. There's nothing more fun than
casting out a humk of lure, and hooking up with a 50# plus bullet with
teeth. Tossing bombs on a 6470 with a Newell 533 is something just
about every long range style fisherman does. Here are the best
specialty lures on the market, ones that have proven their worth in the
mouths of fish.

Our
Slash jig can be fished a couple ways, for great
effect. For our
long range fishermen, it's a GREAT wahoo lure.
For deepwater enthusiasts it's a deep water jig
with excellent action on the drop and wind.
Having said that, the thing casts great and we
rig it properly with a higher quality Mustad hook and a
ball bearing swivel (ours even points the right
way...) attached with welded rings. Our colors
and finish are top quality. While it will bring
in wahoo when they are around, don't be afraid
to jig it for tuna and yellowtail. If your
fishing trip to Alijos shifts gears and moves to Cedros fine, you've got the right lure,
if instead you hit the banks for rockfish,
you've still got an effective lure on your
hands. One lure, fits a few applications, and a
few different styles of fishing.

Catchy Wahoo Bombs!
 Catchy
Tackle has introduced an excellent wahoo bomb! Their new bomb weighs in at 4 ounces and comes rigged on wire cable
with a single hook (the preference for dealing with wahoo). The bombs
also have a nice willow leaf spinner blade attached to a swivel on the
hook for added attraction, and a Keeper above the jig to keep it from
sliding up the line too far from the hook (a very good idea since the
lure will tend to ride up the line after a cast as you let it descend a
bit prior to ripping it back to the boat.
There are three variations to the
lures. The standard chrome head version features a double skirt of
flashy material. The Gold head and the
 Black
Chrome head also feature an internal Newell Skirt. The Newell skirts are
heavier, thicker, more durable and make the lure have a fuller presence
when quickly retrieved. These bombs are going to be effective, and quite
popular. Catchy did their homework prior to manufacture. The heads are
typical Catchy quality, meaning EXCELLENT and DURABLE. Unlike the
offshore produced stuff, these are well made and precision manufactured.
The chrome platting is all much better and will prove much more durable.
The Gold and Black Chrome heads are flawless and will prove well worth
the money.

Tackle Spinner Bombs
Catchy Tackle
burst onto the sportfishing scene with a unique spinner jet head that
proved exceptionally productive for many species of fish. Their
Spinner Bombs have proven tops in their class, without question.
For the 'hoo,
Catchy offers two sizes of lures, both with bright reflective skirts, which can be used casting or trolling. Their best use is as
a casting bomb, I think. If you're going long range, stick a few of these in your
tackle bag. From $19-20, it's a good value, and a uniquely productive lure. Also, if
you are targeting the big hoo, you might also consider using their larger marlin size

Big Game, Very Big Game - Marlin, BIG Wahoo...
 The
biggest Catchy's offer a unique spinner design, they also offer an
excellent premium skirt material too. These big game spinner
blade lures feature Newell Skirts, a heavier material for longer lived use when
inhaled and chomped by the big boys. The largest 16 ounce lures from the Spinner Jet
series are also designed for big gamefish, and use first rate Sevenstrand skirts. But,
these guys are something even more extreme as you can see. The biggest
Magnums are large, at a good 26 ounces. The picture shows two
different designs, a concave head on the three left ones, a bullet
head on the lure to the right. The new head option (concave
slant) is made for slower trolling while the bullet head lives on
speed. It will prove an effective lure from 6 up to 12
knots. By contrast the slant is better suited to 3-5
knots. In that application the slant/concave head magnums will
swing, dive, pop up, do all sorts of things to draw attention to
themselves. But, they should not be used at the faster speed the
bullet head is intended. Both lures produce a big bubble trail, churning up the
water with their blades. They work great as a teaser, or can be rigged for direct
strikes for the big boys. It's a unique product, with excellent
fishability, effective on a wide variety of gamefish. @$54.95

The pictures
just don't do these lures justice, with their super flashy tinsel,
hammered leaf spinner, it's one attention getting lure, and a really
great value. And,
that's just what the wahoo like! These lures are appropriately
rigged for their quarry, with wire. The hook is rigged
close to the heavy head on it's own swivel - good idea for wahoo.
The Wahoo Bomb is another well planned product, from
a very innovative manufacturer. This lure works effectively
trolled or cast. These are not some cheap import, they're made
right here in California. They are not quite as well
built as either the Catchy or Burns Bombs, but they are a well
constructed inexpensive alternative. They'll get bit. These lures are an excellent value at only

Braid Wahoo Bombs!
There are a
lot of very effective wahoo bombs on the market, Catchy,
Burns, Strike Master, and of course Braid. All can
be quite effective and a lot of fun to fish. What
makes the Braid 540 Bomb unique is it's shape and
design. The lure is designed to improve hook-ups.
This lure has a counter bored head which puts the
hook closer to the head of the lure - where a
Wahoo typically nails it's prey. We sell the lures
rigged, with low visibility multi-strand wire, a
nice spinner-blade tailer. They are well rigged,
and they have an attention getting skirt design
with mylar, tinsel and a thicker holographic
overskirt. Braid's 540 Bomb is also a bit heavier
than the typical wahoo bomb, coming in at six
ounces. So, they'll drop fast, cast far, and be
quite effective fishing the slide after a trolling
rig hook-up. The lures are proven, and well worth
having in the tackle box.

Ballyhood's Wahoo Express
 This
one's not a casting bomb unless you're a direct descendent of Conan
the Barbarian. It's weighty, designed for trolling rather than
casting. But, it warrants placement here on the 'hoo page due
to both it's design and tremendous success. This winner was influenced by the
knowledgeable contributions of wahoo expert Dr. Ray
Waldner of West Palm Beach, Florida and Twig Tolle, Jr., Sportfishing Magazine. The Wahoo
Express high speed sub-surface lure weighs in a 14 ounces and
9" overall length and has a high polished 1" diameter bullet head with large
