Cal's Speedshop Accessories

Cal's is well known for their conversions and blueprinting of Penn reels.  They also have a couple new items of interest, their new Universal Reel and Star Drag Grease and heavy duty drag plates for Shimano Trinidad and Torium reels.  The grease is capable of handling heavy use, high temperatures, and extended fights from big time fish.  The drag plates offer extended pressure, and smoother application of that pressure.  CharkBait is proud to be the first Internet source for these excellent additions to your reels.

*Frankly, the drags on the shimano Trinidad and Torium reels are suspect at best. For smaller fish, they're adequate. But for larger fish capable of harder pulls, they fade too quickly and just don't put out consistent pressure over en extended fight. So, Cal's made a better drag plate, and with the use of Xtreme or Carbontex drags from Smooth Drag these reels can be made to perform MUCH better. Of course the folks at shimano don't recognize any deficiency with their product and they'll play games with you if you send in a reel that's been enhanced. But, for guys in the know this upgrade is VERY common practice, and makes their reels much better performers. It's kind of sad that it's necessary, especially on a $400 reel, but that's shimano for you.

 

 

Drags

If you fish a lot, you probably should replace your drags regularly, before they fail. If you fish for bigger game, sharks, long range, take care of this essential maintenance before your next trip. Undertaking the job of replacing drags isn't all that tough to do. I'd suggest simply buying the parts and breaking out the old screwdriver. There's a brief article you can read to gain confidence on the Fishermen's Journal section of this website. If you still aren't' too comfortable performing the surgery we can do the work for you.
