We've
done some upgrading of this wahoo classic the hook
is even better now, and the prism tape is applied to
both sides of the lure and is non-graduated. We've
increased the size of the welded ring at the
nose of the lure for a better swing on the
retrieve. These
are the changes, but some things stayed the same.
Lure weight is still 125 and 200 grams, in both
chrome and gold finish and they are still made from solid
BRASS so they drop fast and are super strong.
Here's the downside, the cost of brass is what put
the larger 5 and 7 ounce Krocodile spoons out of
production, and the currently marketed "raider"
jigs out of production - those lures would have ended up
costing $30 or more...at dealer cost, given the
price
of the brass.
No matter the expense, BRASS IS THE
KEY TO THIS LURE! And, we maintain that
construction unlike some low cost
imitations of this lure which will be seen on
the market AND offered for even higher prices
than our brass produced lures - that's YOUR
benefit from our factory direct production!
(note, "raider" jigs will be coming back
this year but the new ones are NO LONGER MADE OF
BRASS - they are 2 ounces lighter in weight and
NO LONGER THE SAME LURE - 2 ounces is about 60
grams, over 25% lighter in weight...and that
means they won't sink as fast and won't get the
same response from fish as the original
Raiders®.
Also note the "new" steel version Raiders®
will cost you the same or more than what we are
offering - look at the production materials,
quality and price).
We did not change to a cheaper metal, because
changing the lure's production material changes the sink rate and that
kills the lure's fish catching ability. Brass IS
HEAVIER, IT SINKS FASTER AND GETS BIT BETTER.
That's the reason the original Raiders were made
from brass, it's better and worth the extra
money. In this case, we are offering a true
brass lure for the same or less than the cheaper
steel version that's being marketed. Our
efficiencies and dedication to bringing the best
values to our clients speaks for itself - don't
accept a cheaper substitute, or a more expensive
inferior design.
The original
lures name represented their weight in grams, the
model 200 and 125 referred to their
gram weight,
200 and 125 gm. There's a
reason we don't go to steel for the product, it's
simply not as good. The lures need to be produced from
brass - just like the Krocs. When the original
heavy 7, 5, 3 oz Krocodile spoons were copied and
made with anything other than brass they failed to
catch fish as well. They simply weren't as good as the
original!
History: the
original Raider® was produced by a company that
lost their trade name...and then went out of
business. They were an Aussie firm, very nice guy
owned the company and designed the
lure back in 1993 (Perry See Hoe). They were
produced in Australia and later in Thailand. They
had to change their name to Spanyid in the USA
after losing their trade name through an
unfortunate situation...they were ripped off you
might say. They went out of
business in 2008, I believe (Perry left the firm
at that point). There are no original Raider® lures
on the market these days, though there is a firm
producing lures under that trade name, that lure
is not made of brass and weighs over 25% less than
the originals. We've tried to follow the original
specifications, make some improvements upon the
original, and
maintain the right materials, sink rates, lure weights,
and effectiveness.
