For 2019 Penn has introduced two new sizes, a 15 TALL and a 60 size. The 15T will be an interesting piece. When first mentioned I wasn’t all that excited thinking it was going to be a narrow version of the current 15. My error, it’s not just another 15, it’s taller and holds more line than the standard sized 15. Since these reels were first introduced I’d been pining to have the 25N and 40N made in silver…for myself. I wasn’t of a mind to spend an extra $100 or more to have Penn custom anodized mine (when that was an option – it is not now offered). Well, Penn listened to me…(likely not) and finally produced the reels in SILVER!!! My gosh they look great, and they’ll deal better with long term use and abuse as a consequence.
These are among the most robust, and surprisingly lightest, of all two speed casting reels ever designed. And, they feel good, Penn took the time to test them, develop them, and build ’em right. The reels are International through and through, except these are better. They cast. Of course you have a machined and anodized aluminum body and sideplates, a lightweight forged aluminum spool with line capacity rings, Stainless Steel main and pinion gears, 6 shielded stainless steel ball bearings of very good quality and a QUIET double dog anti-reverse system. That’s a very good thing. And, even better you get a sealed Dura Drag system with Penn’s excellent HT material. These reels are also made in the USA. The guys got ’em right, and while not an inexpensive reel, once you pick one up you’ll understand that these are some very nice reels that won’t let you down in the middle of a fight.
