This is one of the new products I’m most excited about, we’ve carried a wide variety of smaller stickbaits and a small selection of larger floating stickbaits for the guys into the topwater fishing. It has worked out well for most species we have here in California, but there was always one species that was more elusive. Our bluefin in the US waters and yellowfin down south are moving around the water column very often so while some time you may be able to get a surface bite on lures and flying fish other times they might be 100 feet out of reach. Sinking stickbaits are a good answer to this dilemma, they’ve been used to catch bluefin around the world for a long time now but have been hard to get and use. While the $200 Japanese handmade lures are great, it is hard to invest that much which is why these lures are so exciting to me.
The Keeling stickbaits look and swim great, they sink at a moderate to fast rate, flashing on the way down even including glow on some of the patterns. The sizes are perfect for casting and for getting a bite from the bigger fish. All of the lures are through-wired so you won’t have to worry, and not only that the bodies are reinforced so you won’t have to worry about a one and done. They come rigged with large stainless inline hooks, and the 200mm size will be great for targeting our bluefin and bigger yellowfin at Guadalupe. The patterns are very bright and reflective which makes them more appealing, but they also match some of the best bait and colors we could use down here. The smaller sizes will be great for schoolie tuna, yellowtail, bonito and more.
The sleek body makes the Keeling lure easy to use and allows anglers to impart a realistic life-like baitfish action to entice the fussiest of predators. Actions such as
- Straight wind – Straight swimming action
- Twitch and pause – Imitates a struggling baitfish, with a seductive flutter on the drop
- Traditional slow/fast sweeping – Recreates fleeing prey behaviour
A moderate sinking rate (approx 3sec/M) allows for presentation at various depths to target predators throughout the water column.
The Keeling lure is weighted and balanced to retain exceptional lure action and maximum casting distance, even in windy conditions.
It comes with Ocean’s Legacy own custom designed hardware, with super strong split rings and single hooks. Anglers can choose to replace these with single or treble hooks as required.
All models feature wire-through construction so anglers can pull hard when extracting fish from rough ground. Additionally, the lighter range of lures can be presented with confidence during situations when larger predators are honed in on smaller baitfish.
Color range features 10 attractive options featuring UV-reactive paint, including glow properties on select options. High quality Japanese 3D foil and glitter with a multilayer tough coating are used to complete the finish.
