The Wave series deviates a bit from traditional designs, instead focusing on more action and movement. The back of the jig has a distinct wave pattern that will create more movement in the water making it great for reaction bites. Since they are a bit shorter and wider with more texture you’ll want to use them in shallower water fishing, 100-300 feet which covers most of our SoCal applications. They will be more affected by current than the JYG Pro Deep series so you will want to make sure you use the right combination of line diameter and jig size to adapt to the current and depth you’re fishing at. The action of the bigger jigs works great for yellowtail, tuna and bottom fishing while the smaller size fished in shallower water will work great for sand bass, calico bass and bottom fish species.
Since these jigs come unrigged I would rig these jigs with traditional slow pitch jigging double assist hooks. If you’re aiming for bigger offshore species I would switch over to bigger gauge hooks so that you can get away with fishing heavier drag to maintain control of the fish.
From the Manufacturer: The WAVE Series is an iconic JYG with a twist. The front is designed with the familiar bars of UV reflective paint and hyper glow. The back has been uniquely modified to induce a rippling wave effect in the water, and fully activated with the hyper glow for ultimate attraction in deep water.
Ideal conditions include depths ranging from 100ft to 400ft, based on the weight of the JYG. Because of the shape of the JYG, the current makes an impact. The ideal current speeds range from 1 kt to 3 kts.
