EX30
The Avet 30 Narrow and Wide represents an upgrade of the very popular and much respected EX 4/0. The new 30 offers several enhancements which are based upon the Pro 50. There are some small differences, some operational changes, and some significant improvements. Let’s go over what has changed first. The new model uses a more traditional (and loud) clicker. It does not self-disengage. The new model’s lever requires you to push a button before you can ease it into the full position from strike. The weight is just a tad bid lighter than the older model. The most significant improvement advances a very impressive drag performance. The new model will provide OVER 35#’s of drag while maintaining very impressive freespool performance (the older model does 20#’s at strike w/freespool). That’s right 35#’s of drag! It will button down at full to 40#’s! This is one serious reel, for serious fishermen. It’s a more refined piece, both in terms of feel and finish. Like all Avet reels, this leverdrag will spin, without expensive after-market enhancement. The reel features six shielded bearings. Maintenance is easy, reliability is superior, quality of manufacture very high in terms of the machining and ultimate performance. Given the strength and drag capability, we’ve had some folks opt to run these as heavy 80# rail pieces instead of 60# trollers. Certainly they’ll excel at any application that makes maximum use of their freespool and braking power.
EX50
Avet first introduced these new two speed reels at the Fred Hall Long Beach show in 2005. The BIG DOG is capable of pulling 50# of drag at strike, with a full 57# at your disposal! Amazing. The new reels are available in three colors, silver, blue and gold. Six bearings, machined aluminum, made in America, these guys are on a roll!
I bought two prior to our 10 day charter in ’05, several other clients of ours also picked up new 50’s for that trip. Big fish were on tap, an epoch bite on big yellowfin. Our big fish that year was a 306, with probably 40 fish over 200 lbs. The only reels which did not fail or feel squirrelly after tangling with one of those cow sized fish were the Avet 50’s. We saw every other reel manufacturers product have difficulty, while the Avet’s were rock solid performers after multiple fish. That year’s bite proved the quality of what Avet built, and guys have been fishing these bargans ever since…successfully, with no surprises.
The 50 is a whole new game in this size gear. It turns more drag than you need, certainly. That means it has headroom, you’re not fishing at the max. There’s no fade, no problems. The 50W and 50N are strong reels, and like the other reels from Avet, they’re well under priced for what they offer. There’s no better or more fishable 50 size reel on the market in my humble opinion.
In the fall of 2005 the long range fleet operating from San Diego found a huge school of biting yellowfin. This bite was epoch, with literally hundreds of fish over 200 pounds taken, and lots of fish over 300#! Check our Charter section to see some pictures from our own Red Rooster Charter for some proof. On our charter we had fishermen from all over the country, many of whom purchased reels from us, and many of those were Avet 50’s. The only product to have performed without a hitch were the Avet 50’s. We’re talking multiple fish over 200#. The big Penns and other reels of the gold variety caught fish and did well, but the freespool performance of the Avet helped the bait to swim, get noticed, and get bit. All the gear is good these days, but some is “gooder” than others. The Avet 50 is the kind.
EX80
Great Reel – Record Breaking Drag Performance, Unbeatable Price!
Avet’s big gun 80 sets new standards for performance in a big game reel of this size. Extended line capacity verses a 50 wide is the most noticeable difference in this LARGE reel. Going after big black marlin, or for use as a kite reel targeting huge yellowfin or bluefin tuna, this is a reel that will inspire confidence and continue to perform for years and years beyond your expectation. If you are doing some deepwater swordfishing, an 80 properly rigged is a very good option for your most serious fishing. Two speeds are certainly the only rational option for reels of this size, but Avet took things a bit farther by designing their 80 with a three speed option. We show and spec that option in the next section. Either way you go, 2 or 3 speed, there are few fish in the sea an Avet 80 can’t handle, and handle well.
EX 3-Speed Reels
A few years ago Avet introduced a new three speed reel, the feature added to their 80 class reels. Gained was a lower low, a 1:1 gear capable of pulling stumps, or more accurately 500 lb plus fish with relative ease. Avet’s big gun 80 set new standards for performance in a big game reel of this size. Big Game anglers have something to turn heads! You can indeed turn a cow size tuna’s head with this beefy brute of a reel once you drop that gear down to a 1:1 first gear. Over the past few years Avet expanded upon the 80’s with both 50 and 30 class reels gaining the three speed advantage (faster top gear, lower low gear, with a mid gear that packs a punch capable of taming most fish. For folks heading out on a long range trip of a lifetime, these new reels might be the best insurance of landing the fish of your dreams.
Avet’s 30 & 50 series THREE SPEEDS offer the same transmission, same gearing as the 80’s, same excellent drag and freespool performance as the firms two speed models. These are robust workhorses. The newer 30 & 50 3 speeds are available in both the narrow and wide form. Gearing is wonderfully thought out, 4:1, 2:1 and 1:1. So, you’ve got speed when you need it. A reasonable low gear at 2 to 1, that’s capable of pulling most fish you’ll encounter. And, when things get tough, when you hook into to big ones, well, just drop her down to first gear and turn that suckers head and with the drag level these reels are capable of producing you can keep the critters head turned your way! WONDERFUL for anglers, and big time CONGRATULATIONS TO AVET FOR PRODUCING ANOTHER EXCELLENT TOOL FOR SERIOUS ANGLERS.
