Fin-Nor Fishing Reels

Fin-Nor is a legendary name in the world of big game fishing, similar to Penn in that respect. They've been around since 1933, however their ownership changed several years ago. They are now a USA owned firm, owned by Zebco - long a well known USA freshwater supplier of fishing gear. Zebco purchased not only Fin-Nor but also picked up Van Staal, both well known builders of quality gear. We've not sold their products, but we followed them, checked their gear at each tradeshow, and waited, watched and tried to learn how committed they were to building quality reels and how their gear was performing. Over the past three years, we've followed 'em, saw some good products and some that really were not keeping pace with what other more innovative firms were doing. For 2012, we feel quite comfortable with their direction and new products. They have been learning, and it shows. Fin-Nor reels are manufactured in China, under strict production supervision. We are pleased to represent the new Fin-Nor products, with a select range of reels including conventional and spinning designs.

OFFSHORE

Fin-Nor's Offshore series of conventional reels offer versatility and strength, that's their hallmark design. Versatility: they are available in 2 different gear ratios - 6.2 or 4.3 to one. These solid diecast aluminum frame/sidecover reels are robust and will prove very durable. The reels all feature DOUBLE SHIELDED STAINLESS STEEL BEARINGS. This represents a well thought out design and folks who fish hard will appreciate the simplicity and durability of these bearings for many years to come. The Offshore's also use a Dual Anti-Reverse, a continuous anti-reverse with backup pawl. The drag system is overbuilt and heavy duty, with up to 10 carbon fiber and stainless steel washers and up to 35#'s of drag!

The conventional star drag reels are available in 2 gear ratios 6.2 or 4.3 to one. Additionally, you have the choice of levelwind or non-levelwind line handling.

LEVELWIND OFFSHORE

The levelwind versions of the Offshore series reels offer all the same benefits of strength as their non-levelwind brothers. Like the other Offshore reels, they feature an exclusive multi-layered electrostatic finish that will hold up to years of hard use and abuse, guaranteed to hold up better than standard painted designs. The line leveling feature is fail proof, it winds the line in a cross-wrapped manner, maximizing spool capacity and castability (yes it's a castable levelwind!). Underwraps are eliminated, a truly wondrous thing for folks fishing braided lines!

MARQUESA

The Marquesa is an upgrade all machined one piece frame design series of reels, available in both single speed and two speed versions. Use of a machined frame results in strength and precise tolerances. That can not be done with a forged or cast frame design, machining is a more expensive design to build - but it's better to own! These reels have a fast retrieve of 6:1, and the two speed versions drop down to 3:1 for added torque. The shifting system is easy to operate, a nice push button design. The large gears used with these reels also results in improved cranking power compared to many other designs.

We've had the opportunity to give these new reels a spin so to speak, and frankly were surprised. Very good drag performance is offered, top notch machining as well. They are a bit heavier than some of our favorites, such as Avet and Accurate products. No doubt they'll prove robust in operation, and durable performers. In all, we are favorably impressed with the two speeds and single speed Marquesa reels.

FIN-NOR SPINNING REELS
INSHORE

The new Inshore Spinning series are excellent flats and bay reels. They use a carbon fiber MegaDrag for smooth confidence inspiring drag performance. Also, the unique spool design lets you tie braided lines directly on the spool without worrying about line slippage. The reel is made using a lightweight aluminum body and sideplate, with a cold-forged aluminum spool. There are five double shielded stainless steel bearings for smooth operation and less issues with corrosion. There's a Megalok infinite anti-reverse, with sealed water proof drags, a multi-stack carbon fiber Mega Drag material employed. All in all, these are terrific reels for inshore duty.

SPORTFISHER

The Sportfisher is Fin-Nor's best value in spinning. It's built with legendary quality and features, and new for 2012 you have a Bait Teaser feature added. That's a nice option for folks using live bait, and those models are the products we're stocking in this series of reels - opting to move to the Offshore series for the more traditional spinning reels. The Sportfisher has a dual drag system, quite unique in operation. The drag is controlled by a simple knob at the rear of the reel, that's what you'll use to manage the presentation of of your live bait until the strike. Then the front-adjustable drag kicks over with a simple turn of the handle. The Sportfishers feature an aluminum body, side plate and rotor, with oversized multi-stack front drag with carbon fiber washers, and a forged and machined aluminum spool. Going further, you've got the benefit of a strong brass pinion gear, with titanium-nitride coated line roller, even a comfortable grip handle knob.
