CharkBait Travel Rods
We're very excited about this little
project. It's taken us close to a year's time to bring these
products to market. It's something we've felt that was needed for
quite some time. Working closely with an overseas builder we have
produced a travel rod like no other, something folks will certainly
find useful and will broaden fishing opportunities for a lot of
folks. We have produced a higher line test capable travel rod! Given the
airlines making life a bit more difficult for travelers to take
their gear with them to distant lands. And, given the usual lack of
good gear once you arrive at distant shores, our search for
something better suited to what we like to do was inevitable. We
searched for a quality travel rod that was more than a repackaged
freshwater bass rod made for fishing 12-20#'s. Well, we found such a
rod with Okuma's Nomad series of travel rods. Dandy pieces for
fishing up 20-50# lines, and a nice travel bag, too.
That product
gave us hope that we could produce such a piece for our clients.
Well, we have, and I think the time has paid off. We have been doing
some importing of our own over the past couple years. We're large
enough to do so now, and that was something I used to do in a
previous career, too. So we had some experience to work with.
 There
are three rods in this
series, a 20-40# seven foot casting rod and light duty trolling rod, and two
more dedicated trolling/stand-up
rods, all featuring Pac Bay "uni-butt" style all aluminum aft
sections.
(The 20-40# rod just came into inventory, it's been a long wait!)
Specifically, this is a Pac Bay Channel Lock Aluminum
Butt. All rods utilize this butt section, but the 20-40# model has
an EVA foam ring grip on the aft and fore grip since it's intended
to spend more time in a fisherman's hands rather than having primary
rod holder duty. The last two rods mentioned were our first on the
market, since this was where there were no competing products
available, a real gap in the market in our estimation. The
trolling/stand-up rods are four piece, both 6 1/2 feet in length.
One is perfect for fishing 30-40# line, the other for 50-80#
application. With the Pac Bay butts, they're great for trolling
duty.
You
can drag lures, feathers, lipped divers effortlessly. All feature
EVA ringed fore grips for added security and comfort. The guides are
rated for Spectra, and the rod’s unique gimbaled screw together
construction is extremely solid. Unlike other "ferrule" rods, these
screw together within a ferrule, so they twice reinforce their
strength and proper alignment of
these
strong and forgiving fiberglass blanks. This unique connection
feature also makes it easier to take the rods apart after a long
day’s fishing. If you liked Okuma's bag, you'll be thrilled with
ours too! It's a dandy, and also features a zippered internal
opening to conveniently hold some accessories, too!
CharkBait’s new four piece travel rods are
sure to be welcomed by the serious angler looking for
travel-friendly fishing rods capable of landing larger fish.
Fishing from a panga or sportfisher? These rods are perfect
for your needs. Finally there’s a serious saltwater travel rod that can
stand on its own merits as a functional alternative to one-piece
designs.
Since we have eliminated the "middle-man"
and have these rods produced ourselves, we can offer an excellent
savings to our clients. Compare the components being used, and
you'll get the picture. These rods are a value, and there's nothing
like them on the market in terms of dealing with larger fish and
functional troll duty. Let me restate this, since I've done some
homework for you. You can find some heavy tackle offshore custom
travel rods, at prices of over $1000. The one's I've seen do not
compare favorably to what we are offering with our own Saltwater
Travel Rods, which are designed for boat use. If you travel to your fishing destinations or
just like being prepared for opportunities to hop on other folks
boats, our new saltwater travel rods will be favored companions on
any trip offshore. Order yours now!
And, a few words from
one of the lucky folks that purchased one of
these innovative rods:
|
Hello Mark,
I'd like to start by thanking you for such a fine
product. I recently bought your two tip casting travel
rod. My son (13yrs old) and I just got back from
Islamorada. I've have been fishing there with Capt Mike
Basset of Born and Raised charters for many years. A
fourth generation keys guide he has seen it all. We
decided to do a little shark fishing and put the new
equipment to the test. I used your 20-30lb tip and
matched the rod up with a Shimano Trinidad 30DC. Spooled
up with 30lb Andes mono and number10 wire leader. From
the get go the rod impressed us. It casted our live Jack
on a 40 inch wire leader with distance and accuracy. The
largest shark we boated was a 200lb plus Bull. The rod
did not perform like a quality multi piece travel rod. It
performed as good as or even better than a high end one
piece!!!! I have traveled extensively and have used all
the best tackle I could afford. Your product is by far the
best travel rod I've ever used and completely blew away
Capt basset.
Tight Lines!!!, Joe Gorman

CharkBait!
New Sabiki
Sticks
We've
got another CharkBait exclusive for you, a
new Sabiki fishing rod that incorporates a few
innovations that might
interest you. Our new
rods are made to fish the type of bait we
typically hope to bring up on a sabiki. They are
a little stouter than what's been available and
are available in six and seven foot lengths.
Because of that they're fine for use catching
mackerel, squid, sardines or whatever gets
tempted by your offerings. The rods are
two-piece, separating before the grip, and they
now feature a nicer wrap design in our CharkBait red. black
and silver colors. They have
a metal top that won't crack from your sabiki
weight's contact when stowing. They
can be fished with spinning or conventional
reels (though conventional gear is really what
they are intended for). They even have a gimbal!
They use a ferrule design that makes putting 'em
together easy, and taking 'em apart less of a
chore. This is an imported item of very
good quality.
Why own a Sabiki stick?
Good question and there is a very good answer.
Sabiki's can be a royal pain in the butt or
anywhere else you happen to get hooked. While
Sabiki's are not terribly expensive, it's a dumb
waste to use 'em once and toss 'em away because
they're tangled or a hazard aboard a boat with
their small hooks dangling in the way of
unsuspecting folks. With a Sabiki Rod you insert
your line through the rod, it has a larger
opening allowing you to reel the sabiki inside
the stick and even leave your weight attached to
the sabiki. They're a good thing to have aboard,
and they'll pay for themselves very quickly
since you won't have to break out a new sabiki
each time you catch bait.
New!
Based upon some
feedback from some long rangers and folks in Florida looking
for a larger diameter and heavier test bait making stick,
we're introducing our Heavyweight bait maker. The new Sabiki
stick features a wider shaft to handle some of the larger
size sabiki rig hooks, can deal with 2/0 size just fine.
It's also a much stouter pole, larger handle area, to deal
with the pressure of larger bait. If you are trying to make
a bunch of bigger size macks, this is the stick for you. The
lighter pole is more than adequate for most folks, but if
you are dealing with larger size Sabiki rigs and larger size
bait, the new CharkBait heavy duty Sabiki pole is exactly
what you need.

CharkBait!
New Fixed Gaffs
Every boat needs at
least one good gaff, and probably two or three are the norm.
Each a bit different. We have a couple 4 inch gap fixed head
gaffs for you. They're available in four or six foot
lengths, made from fiberglass with a meaty stainless steel
hook. It's a perfect size
for dealing with schoolie tuna, albacore, yellowtail,
halibut and most any fish in that 15-50# class...or better
if you're lucky. We've opted for a bit sharper cut on our
hooks than any
you'll see running
up to $100 range. The gauge of the stainless steel
is larger, the dual sharpened point offering greater
penetration, as well as strength.
Our shaft is also fairly heavy, testament to it's durability
and strength. It's solid, not hollow, and the gaff features
long lasting EVA handle material to provide a secure grip.
If you are looking for a good quality all purpose gaff, and
strength is a consideration, this powerhouse is a dandy
value and something you'll enjoy having aboard the boat for
a lot of years.

NEW CharkBait Flying Fish!
- 8" wingspan, 7" length Flying Fish
Here's
a new CharkBait product we are very happy to bring your way.
Over the
course of the past several years we've been supplying the long range
landings and our fishing clients flying fish lures for use off kites,
at trolled lures and under helium balloons. We offered the best lures,
at the best prices for this type of lure on the market, a better value
and better design than another well known manufacturer. We'll we've
stepped up the value by coming to market with our own Flying Fish. Our
new Fliers are available in the three most productive patterns,
natural black and silver holograph, blue and silver holograph, and
pink and purple with silver holographic wings. They are meatier than
others on the market, a bit larger, and they offer a solid body with
one piece molded wings for added durability (the wings are NOT glued
onto the body of the lure).
The
lures are available unrigged, rigged with a single tuna hook, and in a
chain of four lures with the trailer having a hook. Please note the
rigging used, chaffing spring to the stainless steel single tuna hook,
loop protector... Nicely rigged and nicely made lure. With the chains,
you'll also note we use the solid body lure for the trailer with
hollow bodied baits in front. The lures will run true, and we're
pleased to offer these to you at a value that's tops in the business
for such a well made lure. Since we are the designer and importer
there are no middleman charges, no distributor charges added to the
final retail price. So, the value is the best possible for you and for
us it's something we have production control over so the quality is
consistent and true. (Please note, we've seen similar products to our
Flier Chains offered by others for $99 and more. The value we offer is
the best in the business for a lure that's arguably of better
quality.)
CharkBait!
Chains & Spreader Bars!
We're
very pleased to introduce you to another new CharkBait
product line, something we've been working on for a few
months time. As a private boater I've long used chains to
help entice a bite, to aid getting noticed and make a
greater fishing return on my fuel investment. It's all
about getting noticed. While CharkBait has long been
associated with outfitting long range fishermen, we've
also earned a good reputation for assisting private
boaters - which I'll suggest is the specialty that got us
into the tackle trade in the first place since that was
the beginning of the CharkBait. We were first a private
boater's networking and reporting website. So, it's
natural that our own products would be geared to folks
fishing from their own boats. The new CharkBait Chains are
geared for the private boater seeking better coverage,
better visibility and better fishing while on the troll.
The new lure packs are made for us, to our specs overseas.
These are an import item, like our Sabiki sticks shown
further down this page and our lure wraps. The quality is
quite good, and since we are acting as both the importer
and retailer we have eliminated one or more layers of
markup on the pricing. We are passing that savings
directly to you. The following lures represent a very
good value for something that you should be dragging
behind your boat. Our feather chain and two sizes of squid
chains are shown on the left in the picture above. All lures come in a storage bag
and are rigged on 200# leader.

Products:
-
"Green Machine" Chain - Five 9" lures rigged in-line -
compare them to rigging your own at $50 or more. 9' length
-
Tuna Feather Chain - Five 6.5" Tuna Feathers - compare
to other manufacturer's chains that run about $50
-
Squid Chain - Five lures, the trailer rigged like the
other chains above, in 9" and 6" length.
Please compare the prices and
quality of what we are offering against any other supplier
on the market.

Spreader Bars
Getting
noticed is the name of the game for private
boaters. That's why spreader bars and daisy
chains are so well accepted as fish drawing
tools among
the better skippers. I've long been a fan of
running bars and chains, because they do work.
They provide a very good reason for a predatory
fish to cover more water to bite your lure.
There's more of a commotion, more noise in the
water, more splashing around, more silhouettes
to see from below. My first experience with bars
came from a fellow named Fred Archer, he helped
popularize and East Coast technique out here on
the West Coast. I bought a couple of his bars
many years ago, still have one of 'em. They were
made on a thicker bar than what we generally see
these days, and I liked his more than the others
I've messed with since. Usually, at least in my
estimation, the bars are too thin, and often
there are too many baits on 'em. So, there's
more wasted time on tangles. When we made our
bars, we remembered some of the old lessons, and
applied them. Our bars are made on 1/4" diameter
stainless steel. That's a 1/4" stainless steel
bar folks, not 1/8th or less, not cheap highly
flexible wire. Length is 36 inches. We use a stainless steel chaffing
spring to protect the mono-to-hook connection,
double crimped where it counts. We also shorten
our wings, so to speak, with the two side chains
only long enough to meet at the middle of the
bar. This does much to eliminate tangles on the
lines. We also have these bars made up with tuna
feathers, as well as the more common tube
squids. Feathers, as any angler well knows cost
more than tube squids, and they draw more
strikes on the troll. So, why not rig 'em on the
bar! Well, cost is one consideration that's
prevented folks making spreader bars with
feathers before. Since we eliminate the middle
man with our own line of lures and accessories,
we can pass that savings your way and upgrade
the lures, rigging and value. Value is very
strong on our spreader bars. They are simple,
more basic than some on the market, but made to
last and to be fished hard. The CharkBait Bars
come in a nice lure bag allowing for drying as
well as visual inspection. We've made four bars
in the traditional squid patterns and four with
tuna feathers. All will prove effective, and all
are a dandy value.
As far as price comparisons, since we are the
importer and designers of these lures we bypass
one stage of mark-up. The quality is better,
given the design we arrived at, the bar is more
robust and strong, and the pricing is very good.
We've gone one significant step beyond any other
spreaders we've seen so far by incorporating
tuna feathers in addition to the more standard
squids. Tuna feathers get bit better on the
troll, and so too will our spreader bars.;

Available NOW CharkBait Umbrella
Rigs!
- 1 KG Center Weight, 36" width, 1/4"
Stainless Steel Bar, Squids or Tuna Feathers
We've finally received our Dredges
(aka Umbrella rigs). Like our spreader bars, we're using 1/4" stainless
steel bars (not flimsy wire), and upped our weight to 1 Kilo (2.2
pounds) on these stout rigs. The bars can be used individually or
"stacked" for even greater fish attracting effect.
Again,
like our daisy chains and spreader bars, we're having these made up with
both squid squirts and tuna feathers (11 lures in the spread). The bars
are unique in construction, but also quite traditional in design. And,
because there is no middle man in the process, we can offer you greater
value for your dollar invested. Please do compare these rigs with ones
costing several times more. No arguing the effectiveness of both lure
types - squid or tuna feather. But, if your game is tuna or (when the
water temp moves up) yellowtail, our unique Spreader Feathers will be a
fish catching investment well made.
New CharkBait
Lure Wraps and Totes
In
keeping with the wonderful items above, we've
also produced some excellent lure wraps and a
Panga Bag. There are three lure wraps in the
stable. The small wrap has six with 2.5" by
8"wells and measures 8.5x15" when open.
Our big game wrap has seven 5" x 12" wells -
large enough to hold marauders or your larger
marlin sized lures. Unwraped the Big Game wrap
34" x 13" when unwrapped. The Large Lure/Utility
Bag is an interesting and functional item with
four large 3"x13" size wells and eight smaller
2.5"x7" wells for storing lures, jigs, pliers,
or other essentials. Behind the wells are two
additional
storage areas which are perfect for holding your
leader coils. This is a very nice lure wrap,
with a whole lot more possibilities as an all
you need storage outfit for a day's fishing
adventure. All the wraps feature an open mesh
bottom to vent moisture.
Last new
item to show off is our Panga Bag. (10"x16"x14") This a a
great
carry-all,
with room for overnight use, stowing a half
dozen 3700 size Plano boxes or whatever. It's
water resistant, close enough to water proof
with it's water shielding lining. There's also a
superior non-skid bottom that will put up with a
lot of grinding on the deck of a boat (pictured
right). Nice pack, a lot of ways to use it, and
it's made for some serious use.

CharkBait Rod
and Reel Protection
Rod
Sleeves
Our
Chark-Sleeves are a bit different than most
other's we've come across. They are
available in three sizes. The base of the
sleeve folds up onto the butt section of the
rod and then can be tied off. So, one size can
fit shorter rods with no problem. They are
made of 89% polyester and 11% lycra (like OJ's
gloves if you remember...). The material is
versatile, durable and quick drying. It's
super stretchy, and the micro polyester fabric
wicks away moisture - like those $60 golf
shirts. Nice product, nice price!

CHARKBAIT SPECTRA
ADHESIVE!
Here's
another GREAT exclusive. In the past ALL products used as an
adhesive for mono/spectra connections have been two part formulas
costing about $25. Two bottles, EXTENDED drying time, hassles...
We learned of another product that was a one part formula, NO
ACTIVATORS REQUIRED. (It
pays to know the right people.)
The new product is FAST DRYING. The CharkBait Adhesive is also
thin, for better penetration through the line. Further, the new
product allows some flex without cracking and flaking-off. This is
a major long term benefit. In all ways:
IT'S BETTER, EASIER TO WORK WITH, AND IT'S A
BETTER VALUE! This is not your basic "super-glue," it's a
unique new product that will work in water and retain some
flexibility when used as directed. For best long term storage please
keep in the refrigerator or freezer.

CharkBait Hats! |
DOME-TOPPERS!
Here's a new item
we're pleased to show off to you. Many of our Baja
bound clients have requested we search
out a hat that covers a guys ears and
neck. The Baja sun can be brutal, and
skin cancer is nothing to laugh about.
(I well know that having had a few
visits to the vet for cutting and
burning). We have secured two of the
best hats on the market for strong sun
conditions. Both will fit pretty much
any size noggin given a drawstring for a
firm fit, and they also have a "stay"
clip which you can attach to your shirt
to provide a little extra security in
the wind (helps you keep your hat about
you when all others are blowing
overboard). We're introducing the hats
at $14.99 instead of their regular price
of $18.99. They are a great quality
"breathable" sun hat, and a very good
value too! Heading south? Buy one!

Unfortunately, given my lovely wife's
concerns about the pretty "models" that
have graced our site over the past few
years, I'm limited to only showing

New FormFit
and
Flam'n-Flashy-Splashy Lids!
When you've got a dome like
mine, you're best covering it. It's not just descending bird poop that
motivates me to wear a hat. For those of us folicularly
challenged...without much stuff to warm our noggin...no natural
shade...(noting that grass doesn't grow on a busy street), a hat is an
important step in reducing the effects of too much sun. Yep, I've been
down that path too with skin cancer. A hat keeps the dome warm,
insulates us from heat loss and heat absorption. A hat is a good thing
to wear. Having said all this, you can see why I like hats. Hmm, my
friends are also less inclined to need to wear sunglasses to prevent
their eyes from the glare that comes off my head during a bright day
too, if I wear a hat. Yep, I like hats, and you should too! Yep, more
folks should wear a hat. If they did, I'd feel a lot more normal. So,
as personal favor to the Chark, buy a hat!
In a more serious vein, we've
added some new styles to our line-up of quality embroidered hats. A few of our clients have been
requesting/demanding flex-fit hats. These are not a one-size-fits-all
hat, but rather a more stylish dome-topper. So, we added several
varieties of this style. We've also been asked for a tad more fashion
to add to the function. We did that one too. And, finally the gal's
have asked for something to protect their sweet little domes. Dat's a
done-deal, too. We've always offered our
hats at a good value, for a superior product. We're again offering a
better hat for a better value. Compare our form-fit hats. These
usually sell for about $20, we have a better product, better
embroidery than you'll typically find, for a very fair value.

Marine Cup Holder
and our new Coffee Mug!
Simply Amazing?
We're
proud to introduce a couple spectacular additions to our holiday offerings,
something every boater and fisherman will appreciate, something
everyone needs. We have a wonderful new cup holder for our
clients, one that will accommodate a wide range of bottles or cans,
even with a can sleeve. These also can be mounted three
different ways, with a suction cup adaptor, clip or a Velcro strap
system. The holders even will expand for bottles. Nifty
idea, well executed. Notice on the picture below how it can be
added to your SKB tackle box rod holders. What could be finer
on a long range trip?
Well,
in answer to the above question, how about a stainless steel 16
ounce coffee mug? Yep, it's true. We've scored a
terrific double wall stainless steel coffee mug, with a drip proof
lid that slides open for easy drink consumption. This is a
terrific coffee mug, worth $15 or so if you buy one at Starbucks.
Of course their version does not come with such a trick logo!
Does this mug work on a boat? Yep. Does this mug work in
a car? Absolutely. Motorcycle? Well, it can be
done, but not with a full face helmet! There's something about
a good cup of coffee that goes along well with boating and fishing.
It's just the ticket while you're motoring out of the harbor and
heading out for a day's fishing. With our cup, your coffee
will stay hot longer. And, with our mug and logo you'll be winning
style points all the way!
