What a nice
beginning to our Red Rooster Charters for 2009. Our four day trip was
a good one. We didn't go to Guadalupe Island, the first time we
avoided it in the 10 years we've been running this charter. We had
some folks who did quite a bit of traveling to ride the boat, some
very interesting people from all walks of life. We had two gals aboard
fishing, and they did VERY well, I might add, spanking their husbands.
The gals fished hard! We had some first timers who had never been
offshore like this. And we had some old grizzled pros aboard too.
Our first day's fishing was spent about 60 miles north of Guadalupe
Island. We found good yellowfin and dorado, working the kelp pads
pretty hard. Andy and the crew did a great job putting
us on the fish and keeping the folks working the rail properly so
everyone had their shots at catching fish. Based upon what Andy saw
and heard, we made a big move bypassing Guadalupe and ran all the way
down to San Pablo bay. There we had absolutely wide open fishing for
decent sized yellowtail, and a few dorado too. By wide open, I mean
like about 400 of the forkies. We then took a run back up to Cedros
for some larger grade yellowtail - pushing 40#'s.
I've got to compliment the crew and skipper, as always. The Rooster
is
certainly one of the best boats in the fleet, and without doubt one of
the three top boats if your game is taking BIG 200#+ tuna. In my
estimation they are the tops, with the Royal Polaris and Independence
being the other two of the top three. This trip out, one of my
biggest surprises was the food! Jorge was the best in the bus
We'd like to thank the
sponsors of our charters this year. Tormenter Tackle donated some wonderful
lures to our Red Rooster trips, Izorline supplied spools of line and bait lures,
Braid Products, Okuma, Rod Knobbie, Leadmasters, Blade Runner, Daho Needles,
Sato donated Spectra rigging kits, 544 stepped up with some jigs, SKB gave away a tackle box, WFO raffled off a
reel storage case, and of course CharkBait kicked in some lures, items for raffles and tee shirts for all the
folks.
