What a wonderful
year of fishing we've seen...and we will see some more with November's
10 day trip. We expanded our trips this year to include a couple 3 day
charters aboard the Royal Polaris, Shogun, and of course our two trips
aboard the Red Rooster III.
I had some other staff on the first two charters (Tom from the
warehouse on the SCI Shogun trip and Jeff from the shop on the RP), but got to go
myself on the four day RRIII trip. Here are a few of the images from
that trip. We had many options available, and Andy always seems to
make the right calls. He did so again this year. We spent one day's
fishing time on each of three different types of fishing. We started
out at Guadalupe Island hoping for some larger grade yellowfin, then
spent a day at Benitos bringing up yellowtail, and finished up fishing
offshore hunting kelp paddies and porpoise schools for tuna, dorado
and a few yellowtail. Guadalupe was a slow pick for about 15
yellowfin, with little size to 'em averaging about 30#'s and some good
grade yellowtail. Our second day produced almost 90 yellowtail, some
very good quality fish approaching 40#'s. But, our third day was no
doubt the best days fishing with some troll stops, paddy hops, and the
finishing touch was finding a large kelp paddy loaded with dorado and
other fish. This last stop resulted in everyone catching fish, we made
five or six passes of the kelp. Each pass was productive. We'd catch
the dorado near the paddy, then as we drifted off the kelp we'd start
hooking into tuna. It was a bit of wide open pandemonium, and a great
way to end our day...and our four day charter.
